The Dutch floricultural auctions are worldwide leaders in pricing and distribution of plants and flowers. The auctions are cooperatives in which the growers have joined forces to organize their sales together.

The auctions were initially local cooperatives. They now have members throughout the Netherlands and even abroad. In principle, growers must sell their entire production through their own auction. This rule is the core of the Dutch auction system.
